A survey was distributed by email to all Albuquerque Genealogical Society (AGS) members in Spring 2017, and the responses indicated that only 28% had published any of their research in any format (booklet, book. CD, Internet, other). A number of members expressed interest in publishing, however, and an exploratory meeting was held in May 2017. This became the AGS Special Interest Group (SIG) on Writing and Publishing.
The SIG is a free-form discussion group on problems and solutions for capturing genealogical research and family history in a non-perishable format that can be provided as a legacy or a resource for future researchers. Each SIG member is encouraged to carve out some time each week toward their publishing goal; some of their products may be displayed on this blog.
This SIG usually meets on the third Wednesday of each month at the Albuquerque Main Library, Genealogy Center (2nd floor). In 2018, the group decided to meet monthly regardless of having a ‘leader’ present; the idea is to encourage each other with publishing our research. Also under consideration is moving the start time from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, as many genealogy-related activities conflict for morning times. Those interested in receiving email notifications and information on the Group should request inclusion via mike<at>blackledge<dot>com or use the Contact tab on this blog.
